Introduction
In December 1937 Japan and China were in warfare, and the Imperial Japanese Army in successive victories caputured Nanking(current Nanjing) which was the capital of China at that time.
Chiang Kai-shek who was the paramount leader of China abandoned the capital and escaped before the Japnaese Army captured Nanking.
Well-off circles and government agencies also escaped from Nanking, but soldiers of the Chinese Army and poor people were left.
In six weeks during the occupation, the Japanese Army slaughtered total 300,000 or more people who were fighting combatants, disarmed combatants, and noncombatants including women and children. After that, the Japanese Army buried their bodies. The Japanese Army raped 20,000 and more people, and killed many of the victims.
It is a genocide commonly said "Nanking Massacre".
Now, Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre is built in Nanjing, and the evidence of the Nanking Massacre has been exhibited...
イントロダクション
1937年12月、日本と中国は戦争状態にあり、連戦連勝する日本軍はついに中国の首都である南京を攻略した。
日本軍が南京を攻略する前に、中国側の最高指導者である蒋介石は首都を捨てて脱出。
富裕階級や政府機関も南京を脱出し、残されたのは中国軍兵士と貧民だけだった。
日本軍は、占領時の６週間に戦闘員ばかりでなく、女性･子供を含む非戦闘員や武器を捨てた兵士など総数30万人以上を虐殺し、その死体を埋めた。
２万人以上がレイプされ、その犠牲者の多くが殺された。
俗に「南京大虐殺(Nanking massacre)」と言われている大量虐殺事件である。
現在、南京には記念館（Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre）が建てられており、南京事件の証拠が展示されている…。

Nanking Massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nanking massacre , also known as the Rape of Nanking and sometimes in Japan as the Nanking Incident (南京事件, Nankin Jiken), refers to the widespread atrocities committed by the Imperial Japanese Army in and around Nanking (now Nanjing), China, after the capital's fall to Japanese troops on 13 December 1937.Many of the historical accounts detailing the Nanking Massacre are quite macabre and ghastly, even by the often brutal standards of warfare, siege and conquest in the Industrial Age. Probably for this very reason, the particulars of the fall of Nanking and the events thereafter are highly controversial, and disputed by some. Most Japanese historians believe that the Nanking Massacre has been substantially exaggerated (if not fabricated) by the Chinese government, and used to damage the reputation of Japan in the world community. In China, however, the event is a major focal point of Chinese nationalism, and to this day stirs great passions among the Chinese people. The (relatively benign) Japanese version of the incident is considered to be historical revisionism, especially by the Chinese. The disparity between the Japanese and Chinese versions of the Nanking Massacre continues to significantly impede relations between the two nations.
After the capture of Shanghai in October 1937, the Japanese army moved north and captured Nanking in the Battle of Nanking, on 13 December, 1937. By then the Chinese Nationalist army had fled the city and the Japanese entered a virtually resistance-free city. The time period of the Massacre is not clearly defined, though the period of unruly carnage lasted well into 6 weeks after, until early February 1937.
War crimes committed during this episode include looting, rape, arson and the killing of civilians and prisoners of war. It is not known how many Nationalist soldiers were trapped within the walled city and disguised themselves as civilians, but a large number of deaths also occurred to women and children. The extent of the atrocities is debated, with numbers ranging from the present CCP's claim of a non-combatant death toll of 300,000, to the claim of the Japanese army at the International Military Tribunal for the Far East that the death toll was military in nature, and that there were no organized massacres or atrocities carried out on civilians. The War Tribunal judged in one case that the total number of deaths was 127,000, and 200,000 in another. In the death sentence against the commander of the Japanese army in Nanking, General Matsui Iwane, the number was set at 100,000.
